There is nothing like finding apt titles for a song. Stuff which negates the need of thinking about what the song lyrics might mean in all totality. Stuff like, the politicallly correct, sweet "You're Beautiful". Or why would you try and caption something related to the pain of leaving your lover anything but "Goodbye My Lover"?In the song chorus, James Blunt, the epitome of all that is chic (read:totally gay) repeats "goodbye my lover" about a million times, thus making it clear to us and his lover that he is spent, there is gonna be no more love making, leave.
No seriously, WHAT is that song about?Did the girl leave him for someone who reminded less of herself in bed?
Jeez.
The song begins by questioning whether he failed his departed lover, before his thoughts turn back to the early flowering of romance, depicting himself as some sort of victor (that would be the army background, presumably). His powerful presence caused his new lover temporarily to lose her sight. So he decided to take, not forcibly but with a certain righteous zeal, what he considered his property by an everlasting, possibly even divine, covenant. Continuing this reverie, Blunt imaginatively plants his mouth over various parts of his exlover’s body before recalling how they would both sleep under the same sheets. This is the reason he can then claim intimate knowledge of her physical odour.
Anyway, what is with the gay platoon these days anyway?
Theyre getting popularer.
Its hurting my back.
